The Beginning

Nothing is more practical than finding God, than falling in Love in a quite absolute, final way. What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination, will affect everything. It will decide what will get you out of bed in the morning, what you do with your evenings, how you spend your weekends, what you read, whom you know, what breaks your heart, and what amazes you with joy and gratitude. Fall in Love, stay in love, and it will decide everything.

I am traveling to Rwanda to teach for 10 months at St. Ignatius school in Kigali.  Somewhere, sometime, the idea of living in another country captured my imagination and I haven't been able to let go of it since; I am moving halfway across the world because of it. Perhaps I fell in love with the idea, I most certainly have romanticized it in my own mind, but as I prepare to travel to Africa, to Rwanda, to this very foreign place I ask myself: In what way(s) will I fall in love with the people I will meet and places I will go during this next year? The kind of love Father Pedro Arrupe, S.J. talks about, the absolute kind of love that changes and determines everything.

I'd like to thank everyone for all the support and encouragement I've received in the past few months leading up to my departure.  It has all been wonderful, thank you.
